Standing on God's Promises

His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. Through these He has given us His precious and magnificent promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, now that you have escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. – 2nd Peter 1: 3 & 4

“Christine” came into our clinic earlier this year with an intention to abort should she be pregnant. In her 30s with an established, world-traveling career, she saw no future as a mother. In fact, she told her Advocate her physician had told her many years previous she couldn’t become pregnant. She took the doctor at his word.

When asked what the father might want her to do, she said, “He supports me with whatever decision I make. We’re friends, that’s it. There’s no real romantic relationship.”

Christine thought she might be about six weeks pregnant. However, when the nurse placed the ultrasound probe on her belly, to everyone’s surprise, she was nearly 20 weeks along! And, she was carrying twins. Christine felt overwhelmed and left our clinic undecided.

Fast forward several months. Mother to two darling boys, God did a miraculous work in this young woman. Not only did she decide to carry, but Christine also signed up for our Resource and Baby & Me programs. She bonded with True Care staff who assisted and empowered her to be what she never thought she would be: a working mother. She found a strength she didn’t know she possessed, all because she found True Care and our life-affirming, Christ-centered ministry.

There are many “Christines” out there, maybe not all carrying twins, (although we’ve had more than a few during the past year), but women who cannot see themselves as moms. Maybe it’s due to career or school, finances or homelessness. Each one of these concerns can be addressed, thanks to True Care being in Casper. To date, more than 150 lives, including Christine’s twin boys, have been saved from abortion because God has placed True Care in this community. And because God has nudged many individuals, churches, businesses, and families to support this ministry. That support comes through donations and other financial gifts, volunteers, and prayer warriors.

Each day True Care staff and volunteers gather for prayer before opening our doors to patients. We pray for the women who have appointments; we pray for each other; and we pray for our supporters. We thank God daily for those who stand beside us, and we thank Him for his presence in our ministry. We thank Him for all the promises He gives, such as “I will never leave you nor forsake you;” “I am with you always until the end of the age;” “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand;” “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”

Pro-life work isn’t easy; we can become discouraged and frustrated. Not all abortion-minded patients are like Christine – they don’t all choose life. Yet, even in darkness the light shines, through our abortion recovery program and even simply in the love and compassion bestowed on our patients. Many, even those who go through with an abortion, return for another pregnancy because of the love of Christ lavished upon them.

As we enter the last quarter of the year, we continue standing on God’s promises, as an old gospel song reminds us to do:

Standing on the Promises - Written by Russell Kelso Carter (1849-1928)

Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
Through eternal ages let His praises ring,
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.

Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Savior;
Standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises I now can see
Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me;
Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,
Standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
Standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
Listening every moment to the Spirit’s call
Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
Standing on the promises of God.

As we enter this giving season, with our annual Dessert fundraiser on October 10, #GivingTuesday on December 3, and year-end giving a few weeks after that, we hope that you will remember True Care’s work in this community, and remember the words of Peter: “His divine power has given us everything we need for life..” There are many women like Christine who need True Care, and we hope you will join us in serving them and empowering them to choose life for their babies.
